Stink to High Heaven

Definition: To be disgusting or very low quality.

Examples:

1) That room stinks to high heaven.

2) Most of his books stink to high heaven -- they're just terrible!

Etymology: If something 'stinks', it smells bad. 'High heaven' refers to the clouds up in the sky. The idea here is that something is so bad, either to the nose or to the mind, that even the angels who live way up in the clouds are offended.

Small or Little

SMALL e LITTLE são dois adjetivos usados para descrever algo pequeno. Para se referir somente à característica física, dê preferência a SMALL. Por sua vez, LITTLE denota algum sentimento, que pode ser de vários tipos: afeto, desprezo etc.

Examples:

• I bought a present for my little daughter.


• She has a small poodle.


• He is too little. He is just two years old.
