SIMPLE PRESENT

I drink orange juice every day.
You drink beer in the bar.

He drinks wine with his parents.
She drinks water after gym.

Ex: He studies, she studies.

Ex: I play, he plays, she plays, they play.

You say, he says, she says, we say.

I watch the games but he watches a different movie every night.

Verbo To Be

I am
You are
He is
She is
It is
We are
Youare
They are

O verbo “to be” quase sempre é utilizado de forma contraída:
I am-I'm
You are-You're
He is-He's
She is-She's
It is-It's
We are-We're
You are-You're
They are -They’re

Modo Afirmativo
A forma afirmativa é a mais simples. Basta colocar o sujeito e o verbo logo após.
Ex: I’m hungry. = Eu estou com fome.
He’s smart. = Ele é esperto.
We’re the champions = Nós somos os campeões

Modo Negativo
Ex: I'm not a doctor. = Eu não sou um medico.
She’s not sad. = Ela não está triste.
They’re not working. = Eles não estão trabalhando.

Modo Interrogativo
Ex: Are you australian? = Você é australiano?
Who are you? = Quem é você?

Exercise
Complete with the correct form of the verb to be.
  1. He ____ a journalist.
  2. I ____ at home.
  3. ____ it cold today?
  4. Carol and Steve _____ married.
  5. We ____ from Brazil.
  6. ____ she an English teacher?

Indefinite articles A/AN

Ex: Wait a moment. = Aguarde um momento.

Quando usar “a” e “an”?

Ex: A mouse, a book, a pencil, a job, a uniform.

An artist, an animal, an insect, an office.

Merry Christmas

Santa Claus , legendary bringer of gifts at Christmas . He is generally depicted as a fat, jolly man with a white beard, dressed in a red suit trimmed with white, and driving a sleigh full of toys drawn through the air by eight reindeer. Santa (also called Saint Nicholas and Saint Nick) is said to visit on Christmas Eve, entering houses through the chimney to leave presents under the Christmas tree and in the stockings of all good children. Although this familiar image of Santa Claus is a North American invention of the 19th century, it has ancient European roots and continues to influence the celebration of Christmas throughout the world.

Origins of the Legend ,The historical Saint Nicholas was venerated in early Christian legend for saving storm-tossed sailors, defending young children, and giving generous gifts to the poor. Although many of the stories about Saint Nicholas are of doubtful authenticity (for example, he is said to have delivered a bag of gold to a poor family by tossing it through a window), his legend spread throughout Europe, emphasizing his role as a traditional bringer of gifts.

Slang 1

Stink to High Heaven

Definition: To be disgusting or very low quality.

Examples:

1) That room stinks to high heaven.

2) Most of his books stink to high heaven -- they're just terrible!

Etymology: If something 'stinks', it smells bad. 'High heaven' refers to the clouds up in the sky. The idea here is that something is so bad, either to the nose or to the mind, that even the angels who live way up in the clouds are offended.
